Bible verses about patience
Patience in Scripture is mostly about waiting well under pressure rather than being unhurried by temperament. Galatians 5:22 lists it as fruit of the Spirit — something grown, not summoned. Romans 5:3-4 says tribulation works patience, and James 1:3-4 says the same, adding that patience must have her perfect work.

Patience is grown, not decided
Galatians 5:22 places patience among the fruit of the Spirit, and the metaphor is doing work: fruit is cultivated over a season, not produced on demand. This is a relief for anyone who has tried to be patient by effort and found it lasting about an hour. Colossians 1:11 asks for strengthening unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness, which implies patience requires power rather than merely restraint.
Where patience comes from
Romans 5:3-4 and James 1:3-4 make the same uncomfortable claim from different angles: the raw material of patience is trouble. Tribulation worketh patience; the trying of your faith worketh patience. Neither passage suggests enjoying the difficulty. James adds a caution — let patience have her perfect work — which implies the process can be cut short, and that cutting it short costs something.
Waiting
Psalm 27:14 repeats itself for emphasis: wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart, wait, I say, on the Lord. The repetition suggests the writer knew once was not going to be enough. Psalm 37:7 pairs waiting with rest, and Isaiah 40:31 promises renewed strength specifically to those who wait. Waiting is treated throughout as an active discipline rather than a gap between real events.
